In the course of its first four years, its history has been written by such extraordinary figures as Yefim Bronfman, Emanuel Ax, Grigory Sokolov, Sir András Schiff, Garrick Ohlsson, and Giovanni Bellucci. Among the Czech performers have been Lukáš Vondráček, Jitka Čechová, Martin Kasík, Igor Ardašev, and Ivo Kahánek, whose fantastic appearance with the Berlin Philharmonic and Sir Simon Rattle became the event of the 2014 music season in Prague. Year by year, the growing interest of audiences shows that the four piano evenings in the course of a single week have found a following, attracting a concentration of outstanding yet truly diverse performances by today’s top performers.
At the annual event under preparation, we can look forward to a marvelous line-up of pianists, each of whom represents a unique interpretive approach – the living legend Andrei Gavrilov, the master of the most minute musical detail Pierre-Lauren Aimard, the brilliantly talented representative of the youngest generation David Fray, and one of the most distinctive phenomena of the Czech school of piano playing Tomáš Víšek, who will be presenting, among other things, a sample of the compositional legacy of the pianist Rudolf Firkušný. New this year is a concert dedicated to piano four-hands played by the vivacious sister duo Khatia and Gvantsa Buniatishvili.
