<p>The trombone Competition reached its end today with the finals taking place in Smetana Hall at The Municipal House in Prague. The three musicians have spent the whole Sunday May 14th practicing for their final performances.</p>



<p><br>Throughout the evening, the audience could have heard the following pieces: Concertino in E flat major Op. 4 for Trombone and Orchestra by Ferdinand David and Cocerto for Trombone and Orchestra „Don Chisciotte o un autoritratto“by Juraj Filas. Both pieces were performed in cooperation with the PKF – Prague Philharmonia conducted by Ondřej Vrabec.</p>



<p><br>After having heard the three impeccable performances, the jury agreed on the following order:</p>



<ol class="wp-block-list"><li>Prize – Gonçalo Nova, Portugal</li><li>Prize – Juhyeon Seo, Republic of Korea</li><li>Prize – Tim Ouwejan, Netherlands</li></ol>



<p>Alongside the laureate title, the jury also awarded two Honourable Mentions to<br>Botond Drahos from Hungary<br>Jarosƚaw Meisner from Poland</p>



<p>The following prizes were awarded:<br>Czech Music Fund Foundation Prize for the best performance of works composed for the 2023 Prague Spring IMC – Gonçalo Nova, Portugal<br>Prize of the City of Prague for the most successful laureate – Gonçalo Nova, Portugal<br>Bärenreiter Prize for the most successful laureate – Gonçalo Nova, Portugal<br>Amati Kraslice Prize for the most successful laureate: professional trombone VFC – SL6677HR – Gonçalo Nova, Portugal</p>



<p>The winner of the first prize, Gonçalo Nova from Portugal, received an invitation to perform at the 79th edition of International Music Festival in 2024.</p>

<p>Today´s evening was in the spirit of the VIOLA Finals. We welcomed the finalists in the Dvořák hall of the Prague Rudolfinum. The contestants were practicing their performances for the Finals from the morning and at 6 PM their tunes filled the Dvořák’s Hall for the first time.<br>We could have heard Sonata for Viola Solo composed by György Ligeti and Rhapsody-Concerto for Viola and Orchestra by Bohuslav Martinů.</p>



<p>The finalists did great and and the jury took long to decide, but there can only be one winner.<br>The prizes were awarded as follows:</p>



<p>1st prize – Sào Soulez Larivière, France<br>2nd prize – Kyungsik Shin, Republic of Korea</p>

<p>We are glad to announce that the jury has selected the names of the finalists of the TROMBONE category!<br>ROUND II was finished by 6 PM today. In the Majakovskij Hall, located in the National House in Vinohrady, we had the chance to hear wonderful solo performances by thirteen young and promising trombonists, who competed for a place in the FINALS. They were accompanied by pianists Daniel Wiesner and Jana Ryšánková.<br>The audience also had the opportunity to listen to the composition Prague Bagatelle by Jan Kučera, specially commissioned for the IMC Prague Spring 2023.</p>



<p><br>All the performances were excellent, however, the possibility of qualifying for the FINALS is only reserved for the top 3 musicians. After a long discussion, the jury agreed on the following finalists:</p>

<p>The 10th of May was the day of ROUND II in VIOLA category which took place in the Martinu Hall. Overall, 12 violists competed for a place in the Finals. The participants could choose between various sonatas such as Sonate A minor „Arpeggione” D 82 by Franz Schubert and one of the sonatas by the following authors, Johannes Brahms, Rebecca Clarke or Henri Vieuxtemps. The audience also had the opportunity to hear a brand new piece „Il sogno fragile“ composed by Ondřej Štochl for the IMC Prague Spring 2023. After the last contestant was finished, the jury went to discuss, who should be given the chance to perform in the Finals.</p>



<p><br>The decision was not easy, however, only 3 players can advance to final round. The jury agreed on the following contestants:</p>

<p>The viola players have competed for a place in the next round over the past two days. Contestants performed movements of one of the suites Op. 131d by Max Reger and one part of sonatas by Paul Hindemith.<br>Over the course of the past two days, we witnessed 31 excellent viola performances. The Martinů Hall at the Prague Academy of Performing Arts hosted amazing musicians, however, only 12 of them can qualify for a place in ROUND II. Therefore, the jury decided on the candidates we will further see competing in ROUND II, and then possibly for the laureate title – their names are listed as follows:</p>

            <p><strong>The CLARINET category has found its laureates!</strong></p>
<p>Today’s finals of the CLARINET category which took place at the Dvořák’s Hall in Rudolfinum were the peak of the Competition. Until late in the evening we could have heard Première Rhapsodie by Claude Debussy and Concerto for Clarinet and Orchestra by Rudolf Kubín. These were in cooperation with PKF – Prague Philharmonic conducted by Chuhei Iwasaki.</p>
<p>The candidates’ performances were fantastic, and the deciding was not easy for the jury, but there can only be one winner.</p>
<p>After their decision-making, they agreed on this order:</p>

<p><strong>We know the winners!</strong>&nbsp;</p>



<p>Today´s evening was in the spirit of the <strong>BASSOON</strong> Finals. We welcomed the finalists in the Dvořák hall of the Prague Rudolfinum. The contestants were practicing their performances for the Finals from the morning. And at 6 PM their tunes filled the Dvořák’s Hall for the first time.&nbsp;&nbsp;</p>



<p>We could have heard Concerto for Bassoon and Orchestra in G minor RV 496 „ per Marchese de Morzin“ by <strong>Antonio Vivaldi</strong> and the Concerto for Bassoon and 11 Strings by <strong>Jean Françaixe. </strong>This was in cooperation with<strong> the Haydn Ensemble </strong>conducted by<strong> Martin Petrák.</strong>&nbsp;</p>



<p>The finalists did great and and the jury took long to decide, but there can only be one winner. &nbsp;</p>



<p>The prizes were awarded as follows: &nbsp;</p>



<p><strong>1st prize –&nbsp;Minju Kim (1996), Republic of Korea</strong></p>



<p><strong>2nd prize –</strong>&nbsp;<strong>Kenichi Furuya, Japan</strong></p>
