The winners of the trombone category announced

The trombone Competition reached its end today with the finals taking place in Smetana Hall at The Municipal House in Prague. The three musicians have spent the whole Sunday May 14th practicing for their final performances.


Throughout the evening, the audience could have heard the following pieces: Concertino in E flat major Op. 4 for Trombone and Orchestra by Ferdinand David and Cocerto for Trombone and Orchestra „Don Chisciotte o un autoritratto“by Juraj Filas. Both pieces were performed in cooperation with the PKF – Prague Philharmonia conducted by Ondřej Vrabec.


After having heard the three impeccable performances, the jury agreed on the following order:

  1. Prize – Gonçalo Nova, Portugal
  2. Prize – Juhyeon Seo, Republic of Korea
  3. Prize – Tim Ouwejan, Netherlands

Alongside the laureate title, the jury also awarded two Honourable Mentions to
Botond Drahos from Hungary
Jarosƚaw Meisner from Poland

The following prizes were awarded:
Czech Music Fund Foundation Prize for the best performance of works composed for the 2023 Prague Spring IMC – Gonçalo Nova, Portugal
Prize of the City of Prague for the most successful laureate – Gonçalo Nova, Portugal
Bärenreiter Prize for the most successful laureate – Gonçalo Nova, Portugal
Amati Kraslice Prize for the most successful laureate: professional trombone VFC – SL6677HR – Gonçalo Nova, Portugal

The winner of the first prize, Gonçalo Nova from Portugal, received an invitation to perform at the 79th edition of International Music Festival in 2024.
