Violin – who advances to the Round II?
The Competition in the VIOLIN category has already found out the names of the musicians qualified to perform in ROUND II!
The violin players have competed for a place in the next round over the past two days. Contestants performed pieces by Antonín Dvořák, Johann Sebastian Bach, Jan Václav Hugo Voříšek, Nicolo Paganini or Heinrich Wilhelm Ernst.
Over the course of the past two days, we witnessed 42 excellent violin performances. The Bohuslav Martinů Hall at the Prague Academy of Performing Arts hosted amazing musicians, however, only 10 of them can qualify for a place in ROUND II. Therefore, the jury decided on the candidates we will further see competing in ROUND II, and then possibly for the laureate title – their names are listed as follows:

You are all kindly invited to attend the Round II in the Bohuslav Martinů Hall at Academy of Performing Arts on Saturday May 11th. The schedule has just been published on this site.
In Round II we will be able to hear quite diverse repertoire. Firstly, the contestants will chose one of the following sonatas:
a) Béla Bartók: Sonata No. 2 Sz. 76
b) Sergei Prokofiev: Sonata No. 2 Op. 94
c) Leoš Janáček: Sonata
d) Bohuslav Martinů: Sonata No. 1 H. 182
e) Maurice Ravel: Sonata No. 2 in G major
f) Claude Debussy: Sonata in G minor L. 140
g) Ludwig van Beethoven: Sonata No. 1 in D major Op. 12 No. 1
h) Ludwig van Beethoven: Sonata No. 2 in A major Op. 12 No. 2
i) Ludwig van Beethoven: Sonata No. 3 in E flat major Op. 12 No. 3
j) Ludwig van Beethoven: Sonata No. 4 in A minor Op. 23
k) Ludwig van Beethoven: Sonata No. 6 in A major Op. 30 No. 1
l) Ludwig van Beethoven: Sonata No. 8 in G major Op. 30 No. 3
m) Johannes Brahms: Sonata No. 2 in A major Op. 100
n) Johannes Brahms: Sonata No. 3 in D minor Op. 108
o) Robert Schumann: Sonata No. 1 in A minor Op. 105
Furthermore, we will be able to hear Apprivoise moi by Miroslav Srnka, solo composition commissioned for the IMC Prague Spring 2024, and a virtuoso composition for violin and piano or violin solo of the candidate’s choice from a period other than the selected sonata. This piece must have been composed no later than 1930.
