Violin – and it’s time for the finals! Who advanced?
The 10th of May was the day of ROUND II in VIOLIN category which took place in the Bohuslav Martinů Hall. Overall, 10 violinists competed for a place in the Finals. The participants could choose between various sonatas composed by Béla Bartók, Sergej Prokofjev, Leoš Janáček, Bohuslav Martinů, Maurice Ravel, Claude Debussy, Ludwig van Beethoven, Johannes Brahms či Robert Schumann. The audience also had the opportunity to hear a brand new piece „ Apprivoise-moi“ composed by Miroslav Srnka for the IMC Prague Spring 2024. Last but not least could be heard a virtuoso composition for violin and piano or violin solo of the candidate’s choice from a period other than the selected sonata.
Pianists who accompanied all competitors were an integral part of both first rounds of the violin competition. A big thank you goes to the official accompanists: Lukáš Klánský, Miroslav Sekera, Pavol Praženica and Daniel Wiesner, as well as our own pianists, who were: David Ji, Dmitry Demyashkin and Mana Oguchi.
After the last contestant was finished, the jury went to discuss, who should be given the chance to perform in the Finals. The decision was not easy, however, only 3 players can advance to Finals. The jury agreed on the following contestants:

Sasaki Tsukushi (Japan)
The jury also decided to award an Honorable Mention to:
Eigus Ilva (Švýcarsko)
The Czech Music Fund Foundation Prize for the best interpretation of the piece „Apprivoise-moi“ by Miroslava Srnky goes to
Novák Jan (Česká republika)
The finalists will try to win the first prize on Tuesday 14th May in the Dvořák Hall of the Rudolfinum. You can come and support them in person or watch the live stream.
