Viola in the Martinů Hall for the first time

Today, on the 6th May, we were happy to welcome in Prague 31 contestants of the VIOLA category, taking part in the 74th International Music Competition Prague Spring. Over the next few days, the participants are going to compete for the title of the laureate. The musicians come from the following countries, listed in alphabetical order: Canada, China, Czech Republic, France, Great Britain, Italy, Japan, Netherlands, Republic of Korea, Russia, Sweden, Taiwan, United States of America. The contestants were admitted to the Competition based on the results of a previous round.

The evaluation of the musicians is on behalf of well-known viola maestros, forming the jury. The spot of the chairman belongs to Antoine Tamestit, artist in residence of Prague Spring. The remaining jurors Kristina Fialová and Petr Nikl from the Czech Republic, Garth Knox from Ireland, Cynthia Phelps from the USA, Lars Anders Tomter from Norway and Tabea Zimmermann from Germany.

The opening ceremony took place in the presence of all contestants and jurors in the Martinů Hall at the Prague Academy of Performative Arts. The contestants drew the numbers under which they will perform until the end of the competition.

The first round will commence tomorrow, on the 7th May, at 10 o´clock in the same Hall as the Opening Ceremony and will continue until the late evening of Monday, May 8th. The time schedule has just been published. The compositions to be heard are chosen from the works of Max Reger and Paul Hindemith. You can get the tickets on the spot or via the Festival web page.
