The 75th edition of the Prague Spring Competition in the French horn category has just begun

Today, on the 6th May, we were happy to welcome in Prague 48 contestants of the FRENCH HORN category, taking part in the 75th International Music Competition Prague Spring. Over the next few days, the participants are going to compete for the title of the laureate. The musicians come from the 17 following countries, listed in alphabetical order: Austria, Brazil, China, Czech Republic, France, Germany, Great Britain, Hungary, Italy, Mexico, Poland, Portugal, Republic of Korea, Slovenia, Spain, Ukraine and USA. The contestants were admitted to the Competition based on the results of preliminary round.

The evaluation of the musicians is on behalf of well-known French horn players, forming the jury. The spot of the chairman belongs to André Cazalet from France. The remaining jurors are Luca Benucci from Italy, Jörg Brückner from Germany, Jindřich Petráš and Zuzana Rzounková from Czech Republic, Will Sanders from the Netherlands and Szabolcs Zempléni from Hungary.

The opening ceremony took place in the presence of all contestants and jurors in the Majakovsky Hall at National House of Vinohrady. The contestants drew the numbers under which they will perform until the end of the competition.

The first round will commence tomorrow, on the 7th May, at 9:30 AM in the same Hall as the Opening Ceremony and will continue until the late evening of Wednesday, May 8th. The compositions to be heard are chosen from the works of Jan Václav Stich Punto:  Concerto No. 5 in F major – 1st and 2nd movement and one of the works either by Eugene Bozza: En Foret or Sur les Cimes, or by Paul Dukas: Villanelle for French Horn and Piano.
