We started the violin category

The opening ceremony of the FRENCH HORN category, which took place on Monday, May 6th, was soon followed by today´s opening of the VIOLIN category. The total number of 42 participants from 10 countries arrived in Prague. The represented countries are the following: Austria, China, Czech Republic, France, Germany, Ireland, Japan, Republic of Korea, Slovakia and Switzerland.

The spot of the chairwoman of the jury belongs to Ida Kavafian from USA and Armenia. The jury is further represented by Hana Kotková from Czech Republic and Switzerland, Sergej Krylov from Italy, Daniel Phillips from USA, Liviu Prunaru from Romania and Belgium, Josef Špaček from Czech Republic and Soyoung Yoon from Republic of Korea.

During the opening ceremony, all the contestants drew their numbers, under which they will perform throughout the whole duration of the Competition. You can find the exact schedule of the Round I HERE.

Since May 8th, the musicians are performing at Bohuslav Martinů Hall located on the grounds of The Academy of Performing Arts in Prague. You are all kindly invited to attend and listen to Mazurek Op. 49 by Antonín Dvořák and Rondo in A major Op. 8 by Jan Václav Hugo Voříšek. The contestants will also choose one of the solo sonatas composed by Johann Sebastian Bach – in G minor (BWV 1001), in A minor (BWV 1003) or in C major (BWV 1005). Furthermore, contestants will also choose between Nicolo Paganini´s Capriccio (except Nos. 13 and 14) and Heinrich Wilhelm Ernst´s one etude of 6 polyphonic studies except No. 6 (Last Rose of Summer).
