CELLO: Finalists announced!
Today, the members of jury were carefully listening to 12 candidates, who were chosen to Round II. They were competing to get to Finals, where only 4 participants can pass. The Finals will take place on May 13 in Dvořák Hall, Rudolfinum.
The repertoire was almost 50 minutes long and we could hear pieces by Bohuslav Martinů, Ludwig van Beethoven and Franz Schubert. There was also a premiere of the work composed for the IMC Prague Spring 2018 called Feathers of the Firebird picture for Cello Solo by Ivan Kurz.
Chairman of the jury announced the results and these following candidates were selected by the jurors to pass to the Finals: Julia Hagen, Gunwoo Park, Václav Petr, Oleksiy Shadrin.
The jury also decided to give two Honorable mentions and two special prizes. Honorable Mention goes to Konstantin Bruns from Germany and Woochan Jeong from Republic of Korea. Bohuslav Martinů Foundation Prize was given to Václav Petr from Czech Republic and the Czech Music Foundation Prize for the best interpretation of the piece written for IMC Prague Spring 2018 was recieved by Gabriel Martins from United States.
The Finals are divided into two parts. First part starts at 4pm and the second one at 8pm.
In the afternoon programme, we will hear these candidates:
- Václav Petr (Czech Republic)
- Julia Hagen (Austria)
In the evening we will see performances of these participants:
- Gunwoo Park (Republic of Korea)
- Oleksiy Shadrin (Ukraine)
