Romance with Tchaikovsky, Schumann and Weber at the Prague Spring on 21 May

If you are a romantic at heart and soul, get plenty of handkerchiefs and come to the Municipal House on May 21st! “I will reveal the stories to you that I would never tell anyone in words,” promises Robert Jindra, the conductor. The program includes the pieces from the early Romantic Der Freischütz (The Marksman), through the virtuoso, optimistically tuned Konzertstück for Four Horns and Orchestra by Robert Schumann, up to the dramatic Symphony No. 4 by P. I. Tchaikovsky, which is not accidentally nicknamed “Fate Symphony”.

The concert promises a unique opportunity to hear four solo horns on one stage in devilishly difficult parts, which Schumann composed in 1849 for the members of the Gewandhausorchester in Leipzig. At the Prague Spring, two laureates of the Prague Spring competition: Jan Vobořil, now the solo horn player of the Czech Philharmonic, and the last year’s winner of the horn competition Zhicheng Jin, will be soloists of this beautiful piece of music, which Schumann himself considered “something completely unique”. The solo horn player of the Prague Symphony Orchestra FOK Zuzana Rzounková and the winner of the ARD competition in Munich Szabolcs Zempléni will become their partners.

The evening will culminate by performance of P. I. Tchaikovsky’s Symphony No. 4, which was composed during perhaps the most difficult period of the composer’s life, when he was being persecuted by society for his sexual orientation.

With this concert, the Prague Symphony Orchestra FOK will round off the number of its performances at the Prague Spring to a respectable 260! It will be led by Robert Jindra, the music director of the National Theatre Opera, who will be presenting himself at the festival for the first time as a conductor of a purely symphonic repertoire. One of the most talented Czech artists of his generation has successfully collaborated with the Berlin State Opera and the Bavarian State Opera and will make his debuts at the Dresden Semperoper or the Vienna State Opera.

A great tip for a romantic May evening!
