A Recording of Songs of Medieval Female Troubadours Has Been Published with the Support of Prague Spring

On 6 December, a recording called Trobairitz (from Occitan: female troubadours) was released on the Animal Music label. The Tiburtina Ensemble, headed by Barbora Kabátková, and composer Michal Nejtek have joined their artistic forces for this recording. Together they revived the half-forgotten world of the art of medieval female troubadours.

The composition Trobairitz was commissioned by the Prague Spring Festival and given its world premiere in 2022 as part of the cycle Visions and Dreams. Now you have a great opportunity to listen to it either on CD or in digital form including Dolby Atmos surround format. The amazing Vladimír Javorský opens it with his voice in the song of Guilhem de Peitieu – duke, crusader and lover of beautiful women.

The album presents a cycle of songs for women’s choir and ensemble on texts by South French female troubadours from the turn of the 12th and 13th centuries, sung in Czech and in the original Occitan language. Together with the Tiburtina Ensemble, it features leading international soloists on historical instruments: Marco Ambrosini on nyckelharpa, Catalina Vicens on organetto, Margit Übellacker on dulcimer and Martin Novák on percussion.

The creation of the album Trobairitz was supported by the PPF Foundation, the Ministry of Culture of the Czech Republic, the Year of Czech Music, the State Fund of Culture and the City of Prague.
