One hundred young musicians from all over the world due to arrive in Prague

For the first round of the Prague Spring International Music Competition in the field of viola, the Competition Board selected 44 young musicians from seventeen countries. Invitations to Prague were also sent out to 46 entrants in the trombone competition from 20 countries. Most of the candidates in the viola field come from China, adding up to eleven entrants. In the case of the trombone, the Czech Republic and Germany have the strongest presence with six entrants each.

The Competition Board in the field of viola composed of Kristina Fialová, Petr Holman, Pavel Nikl, Jan Peruška and Karel Untermüller anonymously assessed the interpretation of the compositions by Johann Sebastian Bach and Friedrich Hermann on the basis of the sent recordings. “For the first time, one of the world’s most important competitions has opened the doors to violists from all over the world. While listening to the audio recordings, we heard really exceptional performances and I am really looking forward to hearing these violists live in Prague. It is very clear that the young, emerging generation of violists will be very strong and that we do not have to worry about the future of our instrument,” says Kristina Fialová, who will also sit on the international jury for the May rounds.

In the case of the trombone, the candidates sent a recording of their interpretation of a piece by Ferdinand David. The Board then worked in the composition of Robert Kozánek, Lukáš Moťka, Jiří Novotný, Stanislav Penk and Josef Šimek.

The public part of the competition will take place from 7 to 14 May 2023 in Prague. The final round in the field of viola is scheduled for Saturday, May 13, 2023 in Rudolfinum during which the Hradec Králové Philharmonic will play under the baton of Robert Kružík. The finale of the trombone competition will take place on Sunday, May 14, 2023 in the Municipal House with PKF – Prague Philharmonia and conductor Ondřej Vrabec.

The chairman of the viola jury is Antoine Tamestit (France) and the members are Kristina Fialová (Czech Republic), Garth Knox (Ireland), Pavel Nikl (Czech Republic), Cynthia Phelps (USA), Lars Anders Tomter (Norway) and Tabea Zimmermann (Germany).

The jury in the field of trombone is chaired by Zdzisław Stolarczyk (Poland) and the members are Zoltán Kiss (Hungary), Robert Kozánek (Czech Republic), Fabrice Millischer (France), Lukáš Moťka (Czech Republic), Oliver Siefert (Germany) and Jeremy Wilson (USA).

Soutěžní komise v oboru viola ve složení Kristina Fialová, Petr Holman, Pavel Nikl, Jan Pěruška a Karel Untermüller na základě zaslaných nahrávek anonymně posuzovala interpretaci skladeb Johanna Sebastiana Bacha a Friedricha Hermanna. „Jedna z nejvýznamnějších světových soutěží poprvé otevřela brány violistům z celého světa. Během poslechu audionahrávek jsme slyšeli opravdu výjimečné výkony a já se moc těším, až tyto violisty uslyšíme naživo v Praze. Je naprosto zřejmé, že mladá nastupující generace violistů bude velmi silná a že se o budoucnost našeho nástroje nemusíme bát,“ říká Kristina Fialová, která rovněž zasedne v mezinárodní porotě pro květnová kola.

V případě trombonu zaslali kandidáti nahrávku své interpretace díla Ferdinanda Davida. Komise pak pracovala ve složení Robert Kozánek, Lukáš Moťka, Jiří Novotný, Stanislav Penk a Josef Šimek.

Veřejná část soutěže se uskuteční od 7. do 14. května 2023 v Praze. Finálové kolo v oboru viola je naplánováno na sobotu 13. května 2023 v Rudolfinu, kdy Filharmonii Hradec Králové povede Robert Kružík. Finále trombonu se uskuteční v neděli 14. května 2023 v Obecním domě s PKF-Prague Philharmonia a dirigentem Ondřejem Vrabcem.
