Piano Competition of 2021 has officially started!
Today on the 9th of May we welcomed 10 competitors in PIANO category and officially opened the 72nd International Music Competition Prague Spring. These participants will compete for the title of laureate in the following days. The candidates are from the Czech republic, the Republic of Korea and Japan. They will be judged by prestigious pianists such as Garrick Ohlsson who is the chairman of the jury, Gabriele Leporatti from Italy, Ivo Kahánek from the Czech republic, Kevin Kenner from USA, Martin Kasík from the Czech republic and by Olga Kern who represents Russia and USA. Participants will be judged by one other member – Ian Fountain, who unfortunately could not come to Prague because of the pandemic, so he will be judging remotely.
Due to the pandemic situation, Round I was held online, and 10 participants were chosen by the jury based on their videorecordings. Opening ceremony took place in the forecourt of the Academy of Music to ensure that the health and safety of everyone is involved. Each candidate drew a lot with a number which represents the order of candidates´performances.
Round II take place tomorrow on 10 May in Martinů Hall at the Academy of Music. The jurors will listen to pieces by Beethoven, Mozart and others. There will be a premiere of the composition composed for the IMC Prague Spring 2021 by Jana Vöröšová named The Game.
Since there is not a possibility to welcome visitors due to the pandemic, we are providing you the livestreams for each round, where you can watch your favourite participants online.
