“It’s just a song, but it’s so deep that it will sink to the core” (Miah Persson)

Miah Persson & Malcolm Martineau: A Woman’s Love and Life
Thu 16 May, Rudolfinum

Schumann’s famous song cycle for soprano and piano and songs by Scandinavian composers in a uniquely conceived programme by a soloist who has been invited to the MET and Salzburg

It is surprising that only for the first time one of the best Mozart and Strauss singers of today, Swedish soprano Miah Persson, is coming to the Czech Republic. On 16 May, she will perform a programme entitled A Woman’s Love and Life at the Prague Spring Festival with pianist Malcolm Martineau. In addition to the famous Schumann cycle, she will also present a selection of songs by Clara Schumann and works by Scandinavian composers, which Miah Persson has combined with the Schumann cycle into one whole. Listeners will have the unique opportunity to get acquainted with works by Gösta Nystroem, Ture Rangström, Wilhelm Stenhammar, Edvard Grieg, Jean Sibelius, Bo Linde, Hugo Alfvén, Lars-Erik Larsson and Wilhelm Peterson-Berger.

Schumann’s cycle is a reflection of women’s lives. From the delirium of falling in love, marriage, the birth of a child to the painful loss of a partner. “When I had a child, I always cried at the final song” – Miah Persson’s words illustrate how deep emotions can be touched by music. And the emotions mediated in a song recital are even their own category in this regard. Come and experience it at the Prague Spring concert.
